한번도 만난 적 없는 누군가에게, 그가 결코 잊지 못할 선물을!

Building of hospital starts May 26

Photo caption: shown left to right, with some of the first stones carried to the construction site: Banemanie, Clitoraid correspondent in Burkina Faso; Fahir, the first woman who received clitoral repair surgery through Clitoraid; and Abibata, now touring the country to educate women and schoolgirls about the restorative procedure.

A year has passed since we launched our “Adopt a Clitoris” campaign… a year full of enthusiasm, emotion, fun, great surprise, with people joining to help, with three women being repaired, the land for the hospital bought and now the cornerstone of the hospital about to be laid. Congratulations to all the benevolent people who collected bills and pennies in the most creative ways. A great thanks to all of you who contributed with your donation, every one of them is precious to us!!!
A summary of our financial operations will be posted within a few days so that you can all appreciate what we have been doing.

I’d like today to keep you posted about what is happening in Burkina Faso. A few months ago we bought a land located in Matourkou, in the southern suburb of Bobo Dioulasso, the second city of Burkina Faso, alongside Bobo – Banfora Road. The local authorities have given the needed authorization so that we can start the construction of our Pleasure Hospital and on May 26, the cornerstone will be officially laid by a few officials at the same time than hundreds of women will come to lay their own stone. The women of Burkina Faso are building their hospital. The movement initiated by Banemanie and Abi, our two correspondents in Burkina Faso is fascinating. Women have decided to peacefully change their destiny, placing the stones that will ultimately free them from the tradition, free them from their “servanthood”.
Abi who is in pink on the picture was a very shy and introverted person before her operation. Like most of the women who have been mutilated she didn’t feel “normal”. Since her operation we all witnessed the change. Abi is today touring her country as well as neighboring countries like Mali and Benin, contacting officials, giving talks in schools and changing the life of hundreds of women by giving them hope. To restore a clitoris is more than a physiological repair, it is also reversing deep psychological damages done to little girls who had dreams and ambitions….
The pleasure hospital construction will start on May 26th. We still miss about $40,000 to finish it. Feel free to help!
